Join the Movement: What If Advocacy Didn’t Look the Way You Expected?

Advocacy starts at the frontlines.

In 2017, a groundbreaking study challenged the global vaccine system.
The Vaccine Manufacturing and Procurement in Africa (VMPA) study (PDF) confirmed what many already knew on the ground:

Even when African countries invest in local vaccine manufacturing, they’re still being locked out of the very systems meant to deliver vaccines to their own people.

Procurement barriers. Missing policies. Unfair global rules.
They’re not just slowing innovation—they’re threatening equity, lasting progress, and community trust.

That’s why we’re launching Luna360.

A new global advocacy initiative for students, parents, nurses, researchers, health workers, techies, artists, entrepreneurs—anyone with a voice and a drive to grow vaccine equity from the ground up—360°, across communities, clinics, and policies.

The world needs more than doses. It needs direction. And we’re here to help shape it.

Luna360 unites communities in the global movement for vaccine equity—and connects everyday people to a movement that:

  • Showcases what’s working in underserved communities
  • Amplifies local champions and personal stories
  • Pushes back on global systems that limit regional producers and community control
  • Advocates for smarter policies, including improvements to the World Health Organization (WHO) prequalification process for tools like MAPs—while upholding global health standards
  • Mobilizes communities to take action locally—not just online

Rooted vaccine advocacy doesn’t start in offices. It starts with you. And if you care about vaccine access, there’s space for you here.

Behind the Urgency:

Africa is home to the world’s fastest-growing youth population.
Source: AfDB (PDF, July 2023), citing UN Population Division data

By 2050, 850 million young Africans will make the continent the youngest in the world.
And yet, over 60% of vaccines procured by UNICEF for Africa are sourced from outside the continent.

In a recent (small) LunaVax LinkedIn poll, most participants said governments and policymakers decide how vaccines reach African communities.
They’re not wrong—but it’s only part of the story. Africa’s vaccine supply remains overwhelmingly external, shaped by global funding structures and policy decisions that often overlook everyday communities. Pooled procurement may sound equitable in theory, but in practice, it frequently leaves out vaccines made on the continent (VMPA study, 2017).

This imbalance doesn’t just slow innovation.
It widens the gap between those creating solutions and those meant to benefit from them.

Luna360 exists to help shift that imbalance—so communities can shape the very systems built to serve them.

New tools like MAPs (microneedle patches) hold promise—but without regional producers, frontline workers, governments, and communities shaping how they’re introduced, equity suffers.

To support smarter vaccine tracking and ensure no one is missed, LunaVax is piloting biometric integration—using secure digital ID tools to link individuals to their doses, even in places without formal records. It’s one of the innovations we’re testing to close access gaps and build trust from the ground up. With advocacy and input from Luna360 communities, these tools become instruments of inclusion, not exclusion.

Did you know?
According to MedAccess (2025), Africa buys over a quarter of the world’s vaccines—but produces less than 1%. Regulatory and procurement rules, often shaped around established global suppliers, remain a major barrier to local production.
