Volunteer to Help Us Pilot the Future of Vaccines — One Patch at a Time

Pilot Location: Lagos & Abuja, Nigeria.
Reimagining vaccine access — one patch, one family, one future at a time.

At LunaVax, we’re reimagining vaccine delivery — starting in Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria, with something as small as a patch.

Microneedle vaccine patches (MAPs) are an emerging innovation that could help make vaccines safer, simpler, and easier to deliver — especially in communities with limited access to cold chains, trained health workers, or reliable power supply.

Our first MAP pilot focuses on one of the most urgent vaccine needs in the region: measles. Despite being entirely preventable, measles continues to claim lives — especially in under-immunized areas.

Why Microneedle Vaccine Patches?

Traditional injectable vaccines come with logistical hurdles — needles, vials, storage, sharps disposal, and fear. MAPs could change that by:

  • Replacing injections with a painless patch the size of a stamp
  • Reducing or eliminating the need for cold storage
  • Allowing faster training and more flexible delivery
  • Cutting down on medical waste
  • Making it easier to reach the last mile — where health systems often stop

While MAPs are still new and under evaluation, we believe now is the time to explore their potential for impact — and we’re starting with you.

The Pilot at a Glance

We’re launching an early-phase pilot to assess how microneedle vaccine patches (MAPs) could be integrated into real-world immunization settings. This includes:

  • Community response and usability of the patch format
  • Application, storage, and transport feasibility
  • Early-stage integration of biometric ID tools for patient tracking and feedback
  • Readiness of local clinics, pharmacies, and volunteers to support future rollout

This phase does not yet involve live vaccine administration. It focuses on education, logistics, hands-on practice, and community feedback. By testing these core elements now, we’re laying the groundwork for a more effective and equitable rollout in future phases.

As part of this pilot, mobile vans will support testing of delivery logistics, community education, and MAP workflows — helping us better understand and prepare for future mobile vaccine delivery.

Where Volunteers Come In

Together we vaccinate. Together we thrive.
Community-driven change starts here.

We need your help to shape what this looks like on the ground — including how tools like biometrics can support smarter vaccine tracking. Volunteer support may include helping with:

  • Spreading the word at community awareness events
  • Helping promote the pilot online or through social media
  • Offering local-language support
  • Helping distribute sample patches or flyers
  • Helping with light, non-clinical tasks during pilot days

These are fully voluntary roles — ideal for those passionate about health equity and innovation. Volunteers will receive:

  • Clear orientation and expectations
  • Certificates of contribution
  • Project-based mentorship and learning opportunities

Why Measles. Why Now.

Measles remains one of the leading causes of vaccine-preventable death in children. In many areas, children miss out — not because their parents don’t care, but because vaccines didn’t reach them in time.

By testing tools like MAPs, we’re exploring how to bring vaccines closer — without needles, without fear, and without delay.

Want to Volunteer? Start Here.

Where you live shouldn’t decide if you live.
This work is about real children. Real futures. Real hope.

Let’s turn hope into action — together.

Sign Up to Volunteer

You’ll be part of a growing community that believes innovation should serve everyone — especially those furthest from access.

Volunteers are not employees of LunaVax and will not be asked to perform duties requiring professional licensure or full-time commitments. All roles are strictly voluntary and project-based.

Let’s patch the gap — together.

Together, we can reimagine how vaccines are delivered—from lab to last mile.

    1. Great question, Khalil! While this pilot is starting in Lagos and Abuja, we absolutely plan to expand to other regions—including the North-East—as we grow. Stay connected with us for updates!
